They Call Me The Birdman

Walter C. Crawford, Jr., Executive Director and Founder of World Bird Sanctuary has published his first book. "They Call Me The Birdman" "Walter "Stormy" Crawford has been telling everyone what he thinks about protecting our world and its wildlife and writing down his personal thoughts on life over the decades. Walter's articles started as a regular column in World Bird Sanctuary's Mews News newsletter. Those articles have been reprinted all over the country. "Stormy's" views on life will make you think about the direction of our modern society. His words will make you laugh or pause to reflect upon the good old days when neighbors knew each other and doors were left unlocked. What started as an "I've Been Thinking" article, became A lifetime of thoughts by Walter "Stormy" Crawford, Jr."

In 1977 Walter Crawford founded the World Bird Sanctuary, one of North America's largest conservation facilities for birds. Crawford has been recognized many times for his leadership in ornithology including the "Lifetime Achievement" award from the NWRA, the "Gorilla, Gorilla, Gorilla" Award from the Zoological Society of Milwaukee County, the International Achievement Award from the IWRC and many others. Crawford's conservation contributions are also recognized internationally. In 1991 the government of Guyana appointed him curator of ornithology and avian research for the Guyana Zoo. That same year the government of Grenada sought his help in rescuing a number of animals abandoned by a poacher involved in the illegal trade of birds and animals. Crawford's peers have elected him a member of the Explorers Club, he was a founding member of the NWRA and served as vice-president for eight years. In 2003 the IAATE presented Walter with its Significant Achievement Award for his dedication to wildlife conservation and in recognition of his outstanding service as President.

All proceeds go to World Bird Sanctuary's Wildlife Hospital to help the sick and injured birds we receive.
