Resource Nest Boxes
Teachers and students will benefit greatly from incorporating a Resource Nest Box into their classroom teaching. Available for a nominal fee and a two week period, the boxes contain activities and props for four different subjects. Below is a list of the boxes available.
Protect Our Planet: The three R's of recycling come alive in this box. Through videos, crafts and activities you can share the importance of conservation with your students. Do things such as making recycled paper and learning how to become a smart consumer.
Rocks Rock: Look at actual samples of rocks, minerals and fossils to find out how and why they form. Box includes various collections for hands-on learning as well as a variety of books and a video on prehistoric life.
Talon Tote: The Raptor Nest Box contains books and activities relating to birds of prey. Dress up like a hawk and then try on life-sized wings for a variety of raptor species. Box includes items such as talon replicas, crafts and a puppet show.
Where We Live: The ecosystems on our planet can be divided into five major categories. Take a trip through each of these biome types with books and videos. Play The Food Chain game and put on a desert puppet show.
Owl Pellet Study
Every day owls produce a pellet composed of pieces of fur, bones and feathers that it can't digest. These pellets are important for learning what owls eat because they consist of distinguishing parts of animals. dissect your own pellet to determine what types of prey the birds has been eating.
Teacher's Packets
Most programs we offer have a complimentary, corresponding packet to go with it, and these packets include activities to do either before or after your program. Teacher's Packets can also be purchased separately if you do not have a program scheduled with World Bird Sanctuary.
Wildlife In My Window: Birds Video Set
Produced by World Bird Sanctuary and Apropos Productions, this set of six VHS videos covers the following bird topics: migration, habitats, classification, adaptations, reproductive systems and feeding and watching. Each video runs 15-20 minutes and includes a corresponding teacher's guide. Rent the entire set of individual tapes.
